Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. The West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often called her birthplace. But she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to become a dancer, but a growth spurt resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I surpassed my male counterparts and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion by her teacher of drama. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the annual school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Over the last 20 years, her work has been seen on the large and small screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her part as Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member during Season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
